Weekly devotion: Building hopeful futures

In Tripoli, one of Lebanon’s poorest cities, many children from underprivileged families face the risks of violence, exploitation and child labour. Beit El Nour works alongside these vulnerable families, offering educational and social support, as well as raising awareness of children’s rights—particularly the rights of girls and gender equality.

Through personal support and community outreach, they seek to prevent school drop‑out, combat exploitation, and empower children and parents to build safer, more hopeful futures. Beit El Nour doesn’t merely respond to immediate needs; it invests in dignity, resilience and the long-term flourishing of children who so often are overlooked.

Bible reading

‘Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.’

Proverbs 22:6

Thought

Proverbs 22:6 speaks to the power of early formation – the belief that how a child is nurtured shapes the course of their whole life. But what happens when children are denied that foundation? In many communities in Tripoli, where poverty and instability force children into adult responsibilities too soon, that pathway is threatened.

Beit El Nour’s work is a witness of the truth of Proverbs 22:6 – providing not just education, but love, safety and guidance. These small, consistent investments help children to learn, grow and flourish, forming the building blocks for a more hopeful future.

Ask yourself: How might we be part of laying good foundations for children – in our giving, our advocacy and our everyday relationships?

Prayer

Loving God,

We thank you for the work of Beit El Nour as they invest in young lives with care and commitment. Thank you for every safe space they create, every lesson taught, and every child encouraged to grow in dignity and hope.

Help us to be people who notice, protect and nurture the children in our lives. Teach us to value every child as you do – with love, patience and hope for their future.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
