Ensuring access to disability support in the West Bank
When Tuqa’s father realised his daughter needed extra support to overcome the additional challenges she faced, he was determined to do all he could to help her. But accessing disability care in the West Bank is extremely difficult - particularly because of the severe travel restrictions.
Embrace partner the Princess Basma Centre provides specialist interventions and therapy sessions at the centre in Jerusalem - but many families can’t get to Jerusalem. So, with the help of Embrace funding, the Prince Basma team is now running an Outreach Programme, with their specialists travelling to 14 partner centres across the West Bank to provide assessments, therapy and referrals.
It was only through this Outreach Programme that Tuqa and her father were able to get the specialist interventions Tuqa needed:
‘Through sessions with the social worker and awareness workshops, I learned how to support my daughter with physical exercises and guidance. These skills helped her progress…the presence of the Jerusalem Princess Basma Centre Team in our area was instrumental in providing us with this important opportunity for my daughter to receive quality medical care.’ Tuqa’s Father
