Giving deaf children in Lebanon the best start in life

Meet 10-month-old Layla. She is the youngest child enrolled at the Learning Centre for the Deaf’s (LCD) Early Intervention Programme.

This programme provides young children like Layla with the very best start in life, working closely with families to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for language development, self-esteem and inclusion.

Layla was born with Down Syndrome and a congenital heart defect. She was also diagnosed with moderate bilateral hearing loss and began using hearing aids when she was just 7 months old. One month later, she began weekly sessions at the LCD’s Early Intervention Programme.

Layla’s listening and communication skills have improved significantly since she started the programme, and she is now much more aware of her surroundings.

“We are truly grateful for all of the support we have received,” Layla’s parents said. “We’re confident that Layla is in capable hands with some of the best professionals in the field of hearing loss. We hope she will be able to acquire spoken language and thrive.”
