Stories from the war in Lebanon: Living with epilepsy amid the trauma of war

Sara's family fled from Syria to escape the country's brutal civil war, only to find themselves caught in the crossfire of another conflict in Lebanon.

The war has not only meant Sara and her family have had to flee from southern Lebanon but the sounds of explosions have also exacerbated Sara’s epilepsy, making it even harder for her to cope with the trauma of war.

After escaping southern Lebanon, Sara's family came to Arab Baptist Theological Seminary (ABTS), which has been hosting people displaced by the war in Lebanon. It was at ABTS that Sara's mother learned about SKILD, an Embrace partner, which provides intervention and education programs for children with special needs. Since enrolling in SKILD's Applied Behaviour Analysis program, Sara's communication skills have steadily improved.
