A step in the right direction

SAHAR’S STORY

63-year-old Sahar lives with her sons and grandsons in a small house in a crowded area of north Gaza. The family has no source of income and they rely on donations and international aid for survival.

In autumn 2021, Sahar’s diabetes reached crisis point, when a severe foot infection left her in agony, unable to walk and at risk of amputation. Terrified and at a loss to know what to do, her family turned to our partner Caritas Jerusalem for help. Their mobile medical team sprang into action, providing Sahar with the emergency care she needed.

Sahar was admitted to hospital and the Caritas mobile medical team cared for her, prescribed strong antibiotics and gave her the information she needed to better manage her condition.

By December, thanks to the care of our partner, Sahar’s foot had finally healed and she was able to walk again. She is just one of 10,000 people that the mobile medical team support each year.
