Embrace’s response to “Gaza: Doctors Under Attack” documentary
Gaza: Doctors Under Attack is a hard watch but it rings tragically true with what we hear from our partners on the ground in Gaza who tell us they feel overwhelmed with the need and that the world is watching but not doing anything. Israeli military attacks on hospitals and the targeting of healthcare workers has been and continues to be shameful.
At Embrace the Middle East, we partner with healthcare providers in Gaza, including the Al Ahli hospital which provides medical care in Gaza City and its surrounding area. Usually a small medical facility with 80 beds, since the start of Israel’s retaliation to the Hamas terrorist attacks on 7 October 2023, they have been treating thousands of casualties from Israel’s bombings and gunfire and have found themselves on the frontline of responding to the humanitarian crisis. The hospital has itself been attacked five times with buildings destroyed and many people killed or injured, despite no evidence from Israel of Hamas activity.
Watching this documentary can leave us feeling angry, upset, overwhelmed and helpless, but there are ways to respond, and we ask you to channel your emotional response into positive action:
1. Write to your MP and urge them to ask the UK Government to put pressure on Israel to end their military campaign and agree a ceasefire that sees a full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza along with the release of all remaining hostages. 2. You can help by giving to the work of our partners in Gaza. At Embrace the Middle East we support the medical work of Al Ahli hospital and the Near East Council of Churches, as well as the work of the Princess Basma Centre which provides disability services to children, including those disabled by the war.
