In June, Embrace submitted a report on the situation in Syria for the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Write to your MP and urge them to raise this report and its recommendations with the UK government ahead of Syria’s UPR to help push for equal rights for all in Syria:
What is the UPR process?
The UPR (Universal Periodic Review) is a UN process that reviews a country’s human rights record and allows other states, including the UK, to recommend changes.
Why is Embrace’s Syria UPR Report important?
Embrace’s new report for the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is an opportunity to ensure that the voices of our partners in Syria are heard by both the UK government and Syria’s transitional authorities.
The report raises urgent concerns, including:
the need for an inclusive constitutional process
better protection for religious and ethnic minorities
affordable access to basic goods and services
stronger protection for women’s rights.
We developed this report together with our Christian partners who work every day alongside communities affected by violence, insecurity and hardship. Their evidence, insight and lived experience are at the heart of this submission.
