How learning to read is changing lives for women and their families

Our partner, the Bishopric of Public, Ecumenical and Social Services (BLESS), is the social development arm of the Coptic Orthodox Church. It plays a leading role in serving underprivileged and marginalised communities in Egypt.

Embrace supports many aspects of BLESS’ community development work, including its Adult Education Programme. Egypt’s most recent census (2017) found that of the 18.4 million Egyptians who are illiterate, 10.6 million are women. Through upskilling women, families and communities are being transformed.
