Healthcare for those now unable to afford treatment in Lebanon

The cost of medical care has risen dramatically in Lebanon in recent years, making it unaffordable for many. Last year, the Embrace Medical Program at the Karagheusian Centre helped over 2,600 people with their medical, laboratory and hospital bills. One of those people was Hagop.

When Hagop developed breathing problems, he urgently needed to be admitted to hospital. But hospital treatment in Lebanon is now very expensive and needs up-front payments.

For many years Hagop has worked as a security guard, while his son is a cashier in a shop. Until the economic crisis, they had always been able to pay their bills. But now the spiralling cost of living meant, even with their combined incomes, the expenses of hospital treatment was impossible for them.

Thanks to Embrace funding, the Karagheusian Centre was able to help cover some of the expenses of getting Hagop admitted to hospital. When he was discharged a few days later, the Karagheusian were also able to provide the oxygen machine Hagop needed at home while he recovered.
