Fighting the stigma of disability
WATTAN’S STORY
Wattan was born with a rare genetic disorder that has affected the development of her body. Thanks to your support, our partner - the Princess Basma Centre in Jerusalem - provides Wattan with care and therapy she needs. As travel to the Jerusalem centre is not easy for the family, alongside her therapy sessions Wattan also receives follow-up sessions on line, which Wattan’s family have said have made a big difference to her progress.
In a society where there is still stigma around disability, Wattan’s mother, Ishraq, is raising awareness online about her daughter’s condition.
Ishraq says: “I want Wattan to feel accepted, loved and successful. I know her hand looks different but I deliberately do not cover it because I want people to see it, to get used to it and accept it.” Ishraq now dreams of a bright future for her daughter and for all children living with disabilities.
