Weekly devotion: Putting love into action

Embrace volunteers help set up an Embrace stall at a popular Christian festival

This week we are giving thanks for the generosity and solidarity of all Embrace’s supporters. We are so thankful for you all – for your care, your compassion and your hearts for justice. We know that these are uncertain times for many and we pray for all of those experiencing challenges of their own.

Bible reading

‘We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing – as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth.’

Colossians 1:3-6

Thought

In this passage, Paul thanks God for the Colossian believers because of their deep faith in Jesus and their love for their Christian brothers and sisters. This hope is grounded in the gospel message, which they had heard and put into practice. In the same way, please join us in giving thanks for everyone in the Embrace family – our volunteers, supporters and staff, and of course our partners in the Middle East. Together, we have a vision of love in action – rooted in, and inspired by, Christ’s invitation to care for those most in need.

Ask yourself: How can you put love into action this week?

Prayer

Gracious God,

We acknowledge that you are sovereign and unchanging in a dark and deeply uncertain world. May this truth bring us peace and comfort.

We thank you for the incredible generosity of everyone in the Embrace family. May this bring us encouragement and inspiration.

We ask for your light to shine upon us and your love to flow out of us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
