Weekly devotion: Healing hidden wounds in Lebanon
Karagheusian Centre, Lebanon
Patients in the waiting area at the Karagheusian Health Centre.
Lebanon is now in the sixth year of a protracted economic crisis that has driven between 44% and 70% of its population below the poverty line. The collapse of essential public services, including healthcare, continues to have a devastating impact—especially on mental health.
According to studies, one in four people in Lebanon is living with a mental health disorder such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress. The ongoing strain of political instability and economic hardship has only worsened the situation.
In response, Embrace continues to support the Karagheusian Health Centre. Located in a marginalised community on the outskirts of Beirut, it provides critical mental health support. The Centre is committed to a holistic model of care, responding not only to physical health concerns but also to the emotional and psychological needs of its patients.
Trained staff routinely assess mental health during consultations, offering counselling and therapy to those in need—helping individuals rebuild their resilience in the face of extraordinary challenges.
Bible reading
‘Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for you are my praise.’
Jeremiah 17:14
Thought
Lebanon’s crisis continues to weigh heavily on many—poverty, instability, and the breakdown of essential services deepen wounds both seen and unseen. At the Karagheusian Health Centre, people bring physical pain, but many also carry invisible hurts: trauma, fear, anxiety. Christ doesn’t wait for us to “be strong” first; He meets us in our need. He invites us to bring our burdens, to seek healing in both body and soul.
Ask yourself: Where in your life or community is there a hidden wound that needs recognition—and how might God be calling you to offer compassion or support?
Prayer
Gracious Father,
You see every pain, every fear, every burden—even those we cannot speak. We lift up those in Lebanon struggling under the weight of crisis: for mental wounds to be acknowledged, for healing that is holistic—body, mind, spirit. Grant wisdom, compassion and perseverance to the medical staff at the Karagheusian Health Centre and beyond. Use us to bring hope into desperate places.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blog: Helping Lebanon’s undocumented families be seen, recognised and protected
Many families in the informal settlement of Hay El Gharbeh in southern Beirut lack legal documents such as birth certificates or identity documents. More than the inconvenience of missing paperwork, this means blocked access to healthcare, education and dignity. Our partner, Tahaddi is walking beside families on their journey to be seen, recognised and protected.
