Weekly devotion: Walk in the way of love

There are many different ways to volunteer at Embrace - we are so grateful for all of our volunteers.

This week, we give thanks for the invaluable contributions of all those who volunteer for Embrace. Across the UK and beyond, people give their time, skills and energy to fundraise and spread the word about our work. By standing in solidarity with our Christian partners in the Middle East, our volunteers are helping to bring positive change to marginalised communities in the region.

Bible reading

‘Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God…

‘For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.’

Ephesians 5: 1-2; 8-10

Thought

These verses exhort us to ‘walk in the way of love’ and ‘find out what pleases the Lord’. How can we do this? By reading the scriptures – and, especially, focusing on the gospels, where we have the privilege of encountering Christ and discovering what a perfect life looks like firsthand. Christ’s perfect life led ultimately to his sacrificial death on the cross – a reminder that any Christian service includes an element of sacrifice.

Ask yourself: How can you ‘walk in the way of love’ today? Think of some practical examples.

Prayer

Father God,

We are so thankful for those who give their time and energy to volunteer for Embrace. They are such a gift. You know and love each one of these wonderful people, and we pray that you might richly bless them.

Thank you for the privilege it is to partner with so many inspiring people to carry out your work – whether it is people in the UK with a heart for the Middle East or our partners in the region, working directly with marginalised communities. Together, may we continue to bring about positive change and bring glory to your name.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
