“The people in Gaza are facing a serious famine but the solution is not to give them food - the solution is to give them dignity, to give them freedom.” - George Antone

George Antone belongs to the Holy Family Church in Gaza City, which is now home to hundreds of displaced people. George’s family was one of the first to move into the church’s compound after the war broke out on 7 October 2023. Since then, George has helped lead and support the parish as they have navigated loss, grief and near-starvation.

In this conversation, George gives an on-the-ground view of what it’s been like to live in Gaza since 7 October. He explains what it’s like to be a Christian in Gaza right now, and how his family’s faith led them to make the courageous choice to go against orders from the Israeli army and stay put in Gaza City.

George also shares his hopes and dreams for the future of Gaza, and pleads for an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

This conversation was recorded on 10 July 2024. George is the administration manager of Embrace partner, Caritas Jerusalem, in Gaza.
